Problematics of filtrate treatment of solid waste landfills in the Republic of Belarus

The republican seminar for effective municipal solid waste and secondary material resources treatment was held from 14 to 15 July 2022. The Minister of Housing and Public Utilities Andrey Khmel, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, representatives of executive committees, housing and utilities companies and the NAS of Belarus, heads of specialized enterprises took part at the event.

Within the framework of the seminar program, the II International research and practical conference "New methods and technologies in solid waste treatment” took place, where not only the issues of effective treatment of solid waste were discussed, but also the treatment methods of the filtrate of solid waste landfills.

The deputy director for regional development of UE «Polymerconstruction» Oleg Avrutin made a report on the basic aspects of realization of similar projects in the Republic of Belarus. In particular, there was considered an issue of regulation of solid waste landfills filtrate discharge after treatment, concentrate’s utilization and presented an innovative technology for solid waste landfills filtrate treatment, developed by the specialists of the company.

The advantages of the present technology are:

Usage of energy-independent natural processes of the impurities removal (hydrobotanical plateau);
adapted equipment of preliminary treatment to make it easier to be used by the personnel;
reasonable degree of automation, providing the stability of chemical processes;
intensified  organics oxidization processes by usage of АОТ (advanced oxidation technologies);
long-run serviceability of the reverse osmosis membranes.
